EXPLOITING THAT JEWELLERY

Nivedita Sharma| Posted On: 10-Aug-2010

Jewellery has always been considered as one's wardrobe staple which is grabbing the attention of people from ages, whether to enhance the appearance or to show the status. From crude jewellery made from natural elements like wood and grass to quality made pieces using precious metals and gemstones to suit royalty, this part of wardrobe has been a good way to add to your looks. Not to forget Hollywood celebrities like, Madonna and Angelina Jolie are well known for their sense of fashion and their love for snake jewellery! And in India it’s  Rani Mukherjee, Shabana Azmi or the vivacious Rekha who are seen adorning beautiful pieces at every fashion event or award function.

In short, Jewellery being the most eye-catching piece of your attire plays an important role in highlighting or playing down certain features. If you pick a wrong type of jewellery, then you will end up emphasizing the weak points on your face and wiping out the impact of your make-up and dress. Worried? Don’t be,  stylekandy.com  gives you plenty of options to co-ordinate your jewellery wear...

Your height, weight, and proportions make a big difference when choosing jewellery that will compliment your body type. If you are overweight, small or delicate jewellery will be lost on you. Choose bolder, larger pieces that exude confidence that won't overwhelm your look. If you're petite, larger pieces would become the focus rather than you, or come off as gauche, so smaller pieces would be better for you. If you're fairly tall, long necklaces will compliment you. If you are shorter, pieces that stay closer to your collarbone are recommended for you. This is also true if you are big busted. And if you are angular or physically fit, more feminine pieces can actually soften your look.

But how can one choose the right jewellery? Designer Amrita Hans added “Wearing or selecting jewellery completely depends on the face type for eg Indian face types consists of Four kinds - oval, round, square /rectangle or heart shape so choosing the right jewellery will definitely make the job easier and add the charm to your overall personality”

Now you must be thinking about how to choose the right jewellery for the right face so here we are making your life a lot easier. Let us start with the oval face, “For such types you are able to pull off wearing just about anything, from a collar piece to a long necklace that comes to v-shape to a long strand of pearls. The sky's the limit for the woman with this shaped face,” Amrita added.

“For the round face, consider wearing longer necklaces. These actually give the illusion of a more oval face. Stay away from chokers or thick beads that rest on the collarbone. These have the effect of shortening the appearance of the neck. Angular jewellery can also have the effect of sharpening your appearance,” says designer Sonali Dalwani added.

Square or rectangle facial shape is the opposite of the round face so earrings that are close to the ears are preferable, with button styles being best. Last but not the least is heart shaped face, so for such types, necklaces should be used to soften the lines and angles of the chin, as for a square. Chokers and multiple shorter chains would be beneficial here. And tear-shaped or inverted triangle earrings work well for you. But the choices in earrings should seek to slim the cheekbone area, rather than soften,” Sonali added.

Well, here we have talked about what type of jewellery is appropriate keeping in mind the face type, but what about the stones which are making a trend this season?  Designer Naina Balsavar added, “Pink sapphire and diamond jewellery is the latest look in precious gem jewellery. But does that mean a particular piece will look good on you? The good news is that pink sapphire and diamond rings look good on just about any skin tone. Unlike many stones and stone combinations, which can detract from a particular woman's features, this stone combination has an almost universal appeal! So, in many respects, when it comes to pink sapphire and diamond rings, it becomes a matter of the shape of a particular piece more than the color of the stones” she shared.

“Also ethnic jewelleries with polka dots and big chokers are something which the fashionistas are opting for,” she concludes.
