Following the foot steps and success prints achieved last year, Epicentre at Apparel House in the millennium city Gurgaon, is all set to break the seal on Art Mart II. Art connoisseurs and collectors from all over the country will unite to celebrate the fusion of art and creativity. Slated to happen from September 10-12, 2010, the grand event concentrates on exploring creative and artistic ideas, which will spread across 40,000 square feet.
Organised by the Old World Hospitality, the project will feature numerous artist and art enthusiasts, who will be showcasing 1000 works from leading galleries and a series of associated events. The three day event will witness participation of artists from different spheres of life. The sole endeavor of Art Mart II is to make emerging artists and their creations more accessible to a growing number of young educated collectors who frequent and inhabit the city. Explaining the concept behind this project, Sushma Bahl, the brain behind the event said, “This initiative is to bring together emerging and established artists and their work on a big platform. Usually they are individually visible only in art galleries, but with this stage we are offering a democratic platform to the young art collectors of this era.”
Some of the highlights of the upcoming event include the Art Appreciation Course, Painting Workshop, Panel Discussion and also the introduction of the Photography Workshop - Millennium City Through Your Lens - to be held for the first time. Among the list of programmes, Sculpture Courtyard will be an outdoor exhibition of sculptures and installations featuring work themed around a range of playful art, curated by Sushma Bahl and Uma Prakash. Artists supposed to showcase their work under this category include Anjolie Ela Menon, Avijit Dutta, Dhruva Mistry, Kishore Chakraborty, Kumar Ranjan, Paresh Maity, and Sachindernath Jha amongst others.
Another section named, Art from Africa will display handpicked paintings by artists from Tanzania and Kenya presenting a broad sweep of African art curated and brought in by renowned artist and author Muzu Sulemanjee from Dar-E-Salaam. Cricket Series by Baba Anand presents a special exhibition of paintings by Baba Anand featuring the IPL to mark the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in October. Being one of the major highlights of the gala event, the Photography Workshop will observe budding, professional and amateur photographers, showcasing their skill with their camera! The theme behind the collection of photographs involve, capturing the essence of the city- Gurgaon behind your lens! Art Mart II will hold this workshop to capture the undying spirit of this multifaceted city on the camera. Arrest the spirit of the city, the heart of being and living in the city that is fast becoming a global business hub and yet remains the quintessential home for numerous lives. The selected photographs will be displayed in an exhibition curated by well known photographer Dinesh Khanna.
Providing an open platform, Art Mart II will include high quality directly sourced original paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, installations, photographs and new media art representing the full spectrum of contemporary Indian creativity by established and aspiring young artists from across the country, on show and sale in the stalls – all reasonably priced and accessible to public and collectors.
