Standing 6 feet 2 inches tall, he has walked at both seasons for Van Heusen India Men’s Week. Having a positive approach and optimistic nature with a perfect blend of sense humour makes this dimpled faced handsome hunk stand out from the crowd. With an aspiration to be the next supermodel, we are talking about the cute face, Karan Rao who recently grabbed the award of the most promising model at the second edition of VHIMW. Here’s the good looking model sharing his career plan, and the designers he would like to walk for free as well as the all important topic - girls!
How did modeling start?
I was very intrigued and surprised by the stereotypical misconception of what the outside world thought about the modeling industry. I started modeling because I could and because I wanted to experience the industry as an insider. When I did become a part of it, I realised that it made me a more responsible and a career-oriented person. My first ramp show was back in 2005, when I started with Prasad Bidappa for a men’s fashion week and later went to England to complete my studies.
The best pick up line which has been used on you…
When I was in France on vacation, a French girl who I'm guessing was attracted to my complexion, walked up to me and said, “Hi, do you speak English? I said...Uh, yeah...She smiled and replied me too...I am Julie...”
Karan as a person…
Karan is an optimistic, fun-loving, friendly, caring, adventurous, sometimes relaxed, and a very ambitious person.
Your fitness regime…
Well my day starts off with 30 minutes of meditation and I dwell into physical activities - whether it's hitting the gym or playing a sport.
Designer you would like to walk for free?
Rohit Bal every year I wear his collection and I'm completely taken aback with his level of creativity, furthermore, the feeling of wearing his clothes on the ramp justifies the profession that I'm in.
You are sentimental about?
Social Issues. At the cost of sounding trite, I do reason with my conscience time and again when I see people struggling due to unemployment and poverty, but in my own little way I do help and contribute.
If you are stranded on a desert island and could keep five things with you, what would you choose?
A wireless TV and DVD player, tons of movies, my XBOX, sun block cream and Jessica Alba (She never seems to get old)
The turning point in your life…
Now. I am producing my first Hindi feature film. It’s a film based on a subject, set in urban India and I’m very passionate about it as it has a responsible social message besides the required commercial value.
How much serious as a platform are the television model hunt shows happening these days?
I think there is a place for every show on television these days, so I'm sure the participants in the model hunt shows may get noticed some way or the other if they're great.
Which male and female model, according to you can be the next super model?
I would rather say me to be the next super model, but then again belief is the starting point for everyone.
Future Plans…
I hope to be an integral and influential part of the media Industry, be it fashion, films, or ads.
One place you would like to visit and why?
Italy for its serenity....and I have heared Capri is absolutely stunning and I love the beach.....also Milan for anyone or everyone who loves fashion.
