No matter how much she was criticized for her weight gain post-pregnancy, there was no denying that in spite of that after baby weight, she looked as glamorous as ever. Now, that we have moved past those full-sleeved gowns, lehengas, we thought that this year was not going to be any different. And boy, did she prove us wrong! There were full-sleeves, embroidery, luxurious waves and then, there was her. With her constant wardrobe changes, Aishwarya Rai looked ultra glam outfit after outfit! Here’s a quickie on what she wore and how she proved herself yet again as the red carpet queen at the 66th Cannes Film Festival.
This year is definitely the year of monochromes and Mrs. B surely knew that well, as she donned one of her first outfits for the film festival. Looking almost close to her former svelte self, she wore a crisp white YSL with a high waist Zac Posen skirt cinched tight with an Armani belt. The skirt which had an extended mermaid-like tail accentuated her slimmer waist, almost reminding us of the former beauty queen in her days of glory!
While we almost forgot what Sherlyn Chopra (Who?!?!) wore to the red carpet, Aishwarya’s constant play with colour had us pause and take notice of the devilish details! Black, baroque and Bollywood together cannot go wrong can it, now? The gorgeous beauty chose to wear a draped number by Sabyasachi to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema. A velvet-meets-lace-greets baroque, the subtle gold and embroidery took us to a different era altogether but a good and classy one, we must say! With the hair pulled back, a gold hair band adorned her hair as an accessory. Subtle nude lips, blush on her cheeks, Ash posed for the shutterbugs with her palms folded in Namaste.
Remember her last year’s navy blue Ellie Saab number? The actress chose to wear another Ellie Saab this year, a black and grey one that was well fitted showing off her famous curves. It was almost straight off the Spring Couture 2013 runway. The part sheer play with shimmering sequined lace embroidery was subtle-meets-sexy. Walking the carpet in a black box clutch and golden jewels for company, she looked every inch radiant.
It’s the red carpet so when we were just wondering why she missed out on Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla, she wore a ravishing floor length creation by the duo for the premiere of ‘Blood Ties’. Heavy embroidery in strikingly bright colours and floral pattern displayed on muted white was seemingly elegant. She carried a satin blush clutch and wore her hair in a middle part. Since the gown had so much going on, Aishwarya chose to keep her lips in nude gloss while her eyes were given some grey eye-shadow and lots of mascara. While we give the gown, clutch and makeup a thumbs-up, we would have loved to see the actress do something different with her hair. The soft, outward waves didn’t really do much for us!
We saved the last for the best and so did the actress, we think. With her electric blue gown for the premiere of ‘Cleopatra’, she looked as stylish as ever in a Gucci Premier gown. This teal coloured gown has contrasting textures on the satin silk number. Along with the pleated bodice and elongated train, she reminded us of her former gorgeous self. What was a relief to us was the addition of colour on her lips. Aishwarya sported fuchsia pink lips and a high top knot instead of the constant nudes and loose hair. A Gucci clutch, diamond studs for company and the star looked every inch of herself smiling and blowing air kisses to the on lookers.
Yes, without doubt this was our favourite look from the rest. She came, walked and conquered our hearts giving us a good dose of inspiration for our wardrobe and beauty! Among the various outfits, which one, according to you ranks at the top? Tell us!
