Mumbai, 12th March 2014: Inspired by the work of artist Franz Kline, Narendra Kumar’s collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014 called “Dark Love” was a stunning line for men and women.

Opening the show with famed Japanese violinist, Mika Nishimura who has played for the Tel Aviv Symphony Orchestra under Zubin Mehta, the soulful music specially complied by her was the perfect accompaniment to the creations on the ramp.

Taking the audience on the various stages of love starting with happiness, attachment, obsession and violence, Narendra matched his colour story to create the four moods.

The presentation started with bright blue and yellow that created joy of love, followed by moss and dark green. Moving into the third stage with burgundy and rust, Narendra ended the show with stark black to complete the palette of the dark theme.

Fabrics revealed a wide spectrum of cottons, chinos, silks, brocades, georgettes, hint of velvet and silk linens with especially inspired prints from the works of artist Franz Kline.

The silhouettes for women were feminine but sharply tailored waisted jackets, suits, jumpsuits, dresses and gowns with prints that had a marked Japanese touch. Detailing came in the form of pinched pleats for luxuriously embroidered gowns, dresses and peplum jackets.

Angular prints and shimmer gave a sheath some evening sparkle. Red peplum skirt, kimono sleeve satin blouse and wide pants, a kimono cropped top, stand up lapels jacket, wired hem blouse, and final mini creation with embroidered prancing reindeers, revealed the formal nature of the ensembles.

For men’s wear it was once again the slim lean silhouette with the new short length for double breasted jackets, which were sportier in construction. Giving that certain edginess to the masculine wardrobe, besides the new colour palette, Narendra blended prints with mesh overlays, embroidered shirt collars, jackets and added decorative elements for the male dresser.

Trousers were fitted and ended above the ankles to match the short jacket silhouette. An unusual long shawl collar for a mid length coat and a sherwani were the only two garments which reached below the knees for men. Lapels were either notched or peaked but on the narrow side to match the rest of the construction.

With “Dark Love”, Narendra Kumar presented to lovers several wardrobe options that were stylish and trendsetting on all fronts.
