The ongoing Blenders Fashion Tour continued to witness a power packed day two in Delhi. The weekend had a lot going on at the capital in terms of innate fashion and design. This season, the tour commenced in Chandigarh on the September 15 and saw a grand opening, will conclude on the 4th of next month in Mumbai. From Chandigarh to Mumbai, 6 cities will have played host to the work of 13 fabulous designers and their spectacular creations, at what can only be called a benchmark on the Indian fashion calendar.
Day two at Gurgaon, Delhi also witnessed some promising set of designers Nida Mahmood, Gaviin Miguel, Pankaj & Nidhi, Neeta Lulla, Falguni & Shane and Shantanu & Nikhil. So, with bated breaths and endless expectations we allowed sinking our teeth into limitless fashion.
Known for her quirky designs and prints and the very unconventional silhouettes for women, this time Nida Mahmood brings in a collection even for the male dressers. Her prints and eclectic designs continue to break the conventional norms. Her collection is called ‘Bombay Bun Maska’ the name is inspired by the iconic bun Maska of Bombay and also refers to the free spirited people who are non- pretentious and believe in creating a style all their own. It’s boho-chic at its best, for the very structured garments with a few fluid ones thrown in. Adding some exciting touches were the LED lights on flowers that dazzled on the heads of the models. The dashing Vidyut Jamwal sizzled the ramp for Nida’s quirky collection and did complete justice to it.
Gaviin Miguel's collection called “Stairway to Heaven (Heavenly Abode)” was a beautiful and surreal reflection of designs. With a theme that is so pure and ethereal, Gaviin's choice of colours was mostly ivory and champagne blending gradually into lemon, light pink, lavender, ice blue with bits of nude shades and white. Fabrics like diaphanous airy chiffon and organza were used to create surrealism. Known for his Red Carpet creations, the designer showed off some long gowns and striking minis for evening and lounge wear. The sultry Lisa Haydon looked heavenly as a showstopper.
Intricate craftsmanship and finish is the hallmark of the designing duo, Pankaj and Nidhi. Their latest collection “Liquid Gold Tree” lives up to the work of this very creative husband and wife team. Even though the entire collection consists of formal evening wear, each piece made a strong fashion statement with its workmanship and beautiful styling details. For the debutant designer duo, this would be the first time they have essentially used gold, since they normally do just bright colours and are known for our contrasts in black, white and grey. However, having used something as risky as gold, it proved to be a complete win-win game! There’s plenty of black which come alive with dull gold used generously along with colours like agate, blue, quartz blue, sapphire and ruby. Actress Neha Dhupia walked the ramp lighting everyone up with her showstopping outfit.
Glamour meets gothic drama as Neeta Lulla spins a tale of her own with her latest collection. Inspired by the beautiful Hollywood actress Monica Bellucci there are touches of baroque and a sensuous style statements. The collection reveals a new aspect of the designer’s creativity. For a look of pure sophisticated elegance that is subtle but refined then the Gothic glamour collection offered the perfect option. Style Diva Sameera Reddy looked chic in Neeta’s collection as the show stopper as she graced the ramp in a see-through black ensemble. This collection, we must say was, by far our favourite as the designer went beyond her comfort sensibilities giving us something that wasn’t very ‘typical’ of her.
Known for avant garde, exaggerated and futuristic fashion sensibilities, designer duo Falguni and Shane Peacock believe in moving fast forward in fashion. Moving from dramatic and voluminous creations, the designers now prefer a more lean and molded look for their garments. Using beautiful bugle beads, sequins and diamantes the clothes are something that the wearer can relate to for daily use. For fashion that looks great on the or off the Red Carpet then Falguni and Shane Peacock have the right choices. Genelia Deshmukh looked ravishing in a metallic ice-blue futuristic gown which was laden with crystal embellishments. In spite of their risqué collection, the duo remains a favourite with celebs world over.
Fashion for the bridal couple during the many festivities before the big day and the romance of the event is the inspiration for the collection by Shantanu and Nikhil. It’s a known fact that the duo is influenced by the French boudoir and baroque eras as well as the Hollywood movies of yesteryear where the look is utterly feminine and romantic. Luxurious laces, structured silhouettes recreate the beauty of a festive carnival. When it comes to bridal wear, the destination for the modern couple stops where Shantanu & Nikhil meet them.
With every showing at each city, the shows seem to be getting only better! We can hardly wait for the tour to reach Mumbai now.
