Designer Ritika Bharwani is known for her design details and also her elegant dressing. We were more than happy to allow her share her styling secrets and wardrobe must-haves with us! Here, she talks of her taste in fashion, design philosophy and picks out ten items that she can’t get enough of!
She says that her wardrobe is a mix of various styles from classic to highly stylized embellished outfits, but she allows each piece to carry a unique tale or travel memory associated with it. Although her favorites keep changing, she has a few key pieces that form the core of her wardrobe.
Fashion Philosophy- invest in classic separates and statement accessories, which can be teamed differently to create new looks every time. When it comes to designing, my inspiration is usually a city I’ve travelled to or a period in history like Greek mythology, which was the inspiration behind my Spring-Summer ’12 collection.
1. Little Black dress
While the LBD comes in different silhouettes, my favorite is a black sheath dress, which I think is an absolute must have, as it is versatile.
Prints have taken over our wardrobe this season. Print on print, this season’s biggest trend is definitely one of my favorite looks. Mixing and matching prints is the newest way to freshen up your look. The key to making this look work is to pair a slightly subtle or neutral print with a busier one.
A blazer is versatile and can be teamed with different looks. I love wearing a blazer with a well-tailored dress – perfect for a meeting or a night out!
I acquired my love for pearls while studying in London and love how it can make even the toughest outfit more feminine.
5. Makeup from Benefit
Benefit - Benetint rose-tinted lip & cheek stain is something that I always carry. No matter how I’m feeling, its my sure shot solution to feeling and looking glamourous.
6. Givenchy Mascara
Givenchy Phenomen' Eyes Mascara perfectly curls and separates lashes and is a great way to add the right amount of drama to your eyes!
7. Shoulder details
This is a trend I love the most as it accentuates the delicate collarbone and this jumpsuit from my AW 2012-2013 collection is one of my favorites.
8. A Statement necklace or cuff
For the days when I want my accessories to speak for me.
9. Box Clutch
Bottega Veneta stretch Knot is one of my all time favorites. According to Coco Chanel, “A girl should be two things: Classy and fabulous.” The same can be said of a handbag, and the Knot fits the description perfectly!
What can I say!! Don’t we all feel like a diva once we slip into our favorite pair of stilettos?
