THE SURVIVAL GUIDE

Fashion week and showings are no different from the big fat Indian weddings with the grand shows, sets, music, glamour and champagne! 5 long days of work, fun, fashion and partying! Apart from the grueling work hours, one is busy networking with designers and friends from media. There is a lot to do and lots of faces to see. Amidst this chaos, one tends to skip the usual meals, forget the daily dose of exercise and beauty sleep remains wishful thinking. The result of the crazy hours, debauchery and work stress reflects on your skin and hair. While this is the time you would like to look your best, you end up feeling and looking haggard and acidic! Post the 5 day event, things get even worse when you are expected to be at your desk to file fab stories, meet deadlines and roll the next edition. Phew….

Here is a simple survival guide to help you retain that glow and avoid hangover this fashion week!

Start your day with a glass of warm water with lime juice and 1 tsp of honey. Remember, dehydration is the last thing you want during this time!! Since you plan to drink champagne OR wine, pop an antacid at the start of your day in order to avoid acidity issues. Also, drink half a litre of water before going to sleep in order to avoid dehydration that is the root cause of next morning migraine!

And now some smart food/drink decisions…

CHOOSE:

  • Sip at least 100ml of water (half a glass) between two sessions of drinking

  • Pack some non-acidic fruits like apple, pear and grapes in your tote and have a little fruit party

  • Much on olives and nuts while at the bar

  • Choose light beer in place of regular beer

  • If given a choice, opt for “unmelted cheese” over “melted cheese”

  • Pick a salad with plenty of leaves and little unmelted cheese

  • Choose fish OR grilled chicken for your “main course” along with veggies

  • Sip on 2-3 cups of green tea throughout the day

AVOID:

  • Fruits like plums and prunes that cause acidity

  • Do not cut your fruits and carry with you (especially, watermelon, musk melon and papaya)

  • Avoid excess carbohydrates like breads, bruschetta and pizza

  • Avoid picking out French fries and fried foods

  • Avoid South Indian cuisine and ajinomoto in order to avoid puffiness and bloating
