She’s hot, sensuous, beautiful and witty. Starting her career as a theatre personality in New Delhi and later moving on to TV advertisements, this young lady shot to fame right after her first movie Gangs of Wasseypur. Huma Qureshi, who loves being feminine and chic in style, speaks to Sk at the brand Woodland’s Fall/Winter 2012 launch about her fashion sensibilities, love for accessories and her future projects. Keep reading, as this talented actress, who made it to the Cannes Film Festival much before her film rocked at the box-office, tell us about her fashion favourites...

We have always seen you in an Indian avatar for both the movies, Gangs of Wasseypur and Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana. Don’t you like experimenting with looks?
I might have been in Indian wear for both the movies as the role demanded it, but, like any other Indian girl, I am a bit of everything. I love wearing my maxi dresses and casual wear just like I enjoy donning Indian wear. Having been a tomboy throughout, as I have grown up with my brothers, it has also influenced my style and way of dressing. I am a very adventurous person, and this has been a reason for me to be here as the face of Woodland’s Fall/ Winter 2012 collection.  I can connect well with the brand’s philosophy of fusing style even when I am out on an outdoor expedition. I make sure that the work or the movies I do, is an extension of my real personality.

Many girls look up to Bollywood actresses and wish to become beautiful like them. What is the health regime that you would advise young girls to follow?
Drink lots of water and work out at least four times a week. Being positive and thinking good too has a great impact on your skin. Always eat healthy food. But remember that the main secret to a healthy and beautiful skin is that even after a very stressful day; you should not stop smiling. Smiling can actually get the best out of you and work as wonders.

What do you love wearing the most?
It completely depends on my mood and the occasion or function I am attending. If I am going out for a shoot, you will see me in a pair of jeans and tee. Sometimes, I even dress up on a normal day, without having any particular event to attend. My on-screen roles till date is just a part of me, but in reality I am a person who loves travelling and wear a lot of western outfits.

Which are you favourite brands or designers?
I swear by Zara, Forever 21, Topshop, H&M, to name a few. From this year, I love the trends of pastel hues and floral prints, and among accessories beads and pearls never fail to attract me. Unlike brands, I also shop from New Delhi street shops like the ones in Sarojini Nagar Market. Even today, I can very confidently wear a Kolhapuri with a long, flowy gown and carry it with great panache. It all depends on your comfort and how well you it suits you.

What do you like collecting or shopping most?
I have a fetish for accessories. They can be branded or even a junk piece of jewellery from roadside shops. I personally believe that a statement piece can change your entire look. If you are wearing a simple outfit for the evening, you can make it look extra-ordinary by just accessorising it with a bold, bright piece of ornament, be it a necklace, earrings or even an embellished brooch.

What does your character look like in your future projects?
I am working on a movie ‘Ek thi Dayan’ with Emraan  Hashmi , and my character is very contemporary and modern. This time you will get to see me like any other Mumbai girl wearing jeans, trousers, dresses and tops. The look is very simple yet quite elegant. The other one is an action film where you will get to see a completely unusual look of mine. For this, wait until you get to see it!

Which Indian designers always grab your attention?
The list is unending. But, if you ask me to pick few, I would first go with designer Varun Bahl, who has been dressing me up for most of my appearances. Not to forget, he was the man behind my look at my first red carpet event in Cannes Film Festival. Apart from him, I am in love with creations from Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Gauri and Nainika, Manish Malhotra, Rohit Bal and Anita Dongre. After all, lovely good clothes are a secret to a girl’s heart.
