SMALL WONDERS

We’ve all seen’ Friends’ on repeat and laughed our heads off each time. First aired in 1994 on NBC, this sitcom that revolves around a group of friends in Manhattan, took the world of television by a storm. The girls couldn’t get enough of ‘Joey’s’ charm and the men couldn’t stop swooning over ‘Rachel’. “Jennifer Aniston aka Rachel Green has been a huge fashion inspiration for me while growing up”, says stylist Priyanjali Lahiri. She adds, “I love her haircut which was popularised at salons across the world as ‘The Rachel’. I love her understated yet gorgeous dewy fresh makeup and also her laidback style reflected in the clothes she wears. I think her fashion quotient was at its peak while she worked with Ralph Lauren in the show- very sassy yet sophisticated. Though it’s nearly two decades since the release of the show, we can all still take inspiration from her immaculate aesthetic sense”.

Designer Tarana Masand says, “These days I’m loving ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’, a reality series that revolves around tabloid protagonist Kim Kardashian’s family and chronicles the everyday life of the three Kardashian sisters – Kim, Kourtney and Chloe”. Tarana adds, “From all the three sisters I admire Khloe’s fashion sense the most. Kourtney and Kim are relatively skinnier and can easily get away with baring their midriff and flaunting their cleavage in tiny constricting tops. Khloe, on the other hand, is slightly on the heavier side. She may not be skimpily clad but still looks awesome in her ripped jeans and sporty tees. I love her cool casual sense of style. American fashion is anyways pretty relaxed and I think she totally rocks the look”.

How can we talk about television inspired fashion and leave out Carrie Bradshaw! Sarah Jessica Parker aka ‘Carrie Bradshaw’ from the popular TV series ‘Sex and the City’ attained much acclamation for her impeccable ‘high fashion’ style of dressing. Set in the fashion capital of America, New York City, the show focussed on the lives of four big city professional and extremely fashionable women. “You got to love Carrie in Sex and the City”, says Designer Rimi Nayak. She adds, “Active in the social circuit and a writer for renowned fashion editorials, Carrie’s signature style is very prim and proper, almost prissy. Strutting the streets of New York in her Manolo Blahniks for six seasons, I couldn’t get enough of her or the show”.

So, be it Neil Patrick Harris aka ‘Barney Stinson’ from How I Met Your Mother or Leighton Meestor aka ‘Blair Waldorf’ from Gossip Girl, it seems some TV characters offer more than just a few laughs. Guess the television is not an idiot box after all huh parents?!
