Having worked in everything from Tollywood to Kollywood before Bollywood came knocking, actor Vidyut Jamval is more than just an action hero. A model, fitness-enthusiast, fuss-free dresser and now an actor, he already has a lot going on for him. Fresh from the success of Commando which is already in plans for a sequel and in between working for his next flick titled Bullet Raja, he was seen launching Woodland’s latest collection. In an exclusive with Sk, he tells us about being overdress versus underdressed, his favourite designer and of course his core fitness secrets...
1. What’s your personal style?
I’m all for the moods! My moods and feelings rule whatever I wear and hence, my personal style keeps changing all the time. I’m quite casual and experimental when it comes to my dressing. To me style is comfort and that’s imperative to good dressing. I’m not afraid to wear a red jacket with washed out denims but I would never be caught in flip-flops and tracks!
2. What according to you are a stylish man’s wardrobe must haves?
I believe that watches and shoes make up a man’s wardrobe. Styles and trends could keep changing but a good pair of shoes and watch go great lengths to complete the look. I love the fabrics and fits that Woodland offers. Hence, its important to pay attention to the small details. When it comes to formal dressing after a bandhgala kurta and churidaar, suits are the next best thing. A well fitted suit in black or grey is another must-have for a guy! Above all, wear a good attitude and you’d be able to pull most looks off.
3. How has your experience associating with Woodland been?
It has been incredible all through! I love their styles as it’s so effortless and grungy. It’s something that I have always believed in. When you put a look together it must appear effortless. In addition to their versatile styling options and choices available, it’s great that they are eco-friendly too so it is atleast the first step towards saving the planet!
4. What does your workout regimen involve?
I work out for 8-9 hours a day and train hard with all sorts of cardio and weights with breaks in between. I love being outdoors and am in the habit of running, skipping and trekking. Being a gymnast I have real good stamina and push my limits each time I work out. However, I don’t be over worked and take my breaks regularly because the body and mind both need their cool offs. Personally, I feel that our body has a mind of its own and one must pay heed to it
5. What are your favourite designers or labels to sport?
Believe it or not, I’m not at all fussy about labels and designer wear as long as I like what I’m wearing and can comfortably move around in them. When it comes to Indian designers, I personally trust none other than Troy Costa! To me, Troy makes the best possible clothes for a man and is by far the best Indian designer. I practically wear his shirtings and suits most of the time. When it comes to denims, Diesel fits best for me and during most of my trips abroad I pick up T-shirts and shirts from A&F. I love the watches from Armani Prive and Roger Dubois too and find myself picking them up in different styles over and over again!
6. Which actor’s sense of dressing in Bollywood and Hollywood do you personally admire?
It would have to be Saif Ali Khan’s suave sense of style and the ease with which he mixes casual and formal. It’s pretty cool! When it comes to Hollywood, I really like Johnny Depp’s risqué style and spunk. It’s absolutely something else to pull it off!
7. What was your worst fashion faux pas committed?
Now that you asked me, I realize that I haven’t ever been there! Even if I may have realized after reaching a particular event I make sure to cover it up with a ‘play it cool’ attitude because you can fake it, till you make it, right? It’s all about camouflaging those minute faux pas with a suave attitude!
8. What does your skincare routine consist of?
I’m quite fuss-free when it comes to skincare routine. Being an outdoor person, I trust my sunscreen to do quite a job while a trustworthy men’s facewash is good to wash off the gunk and dust. Otherwise, I guess I’m blessed with good skin that doesn’t need a lot of maintenance as long as products are concerned. I eat right, keep myself hydrated and sleep well which goes a long way in setting the skin right.
9. Name your all time favourite perfume.
I have two! Paco Rabanne and Allure by Chanel are a personal favourite.
10. When it comes to dressing up what is the one combination that can never go wrong?
To me, blue jeans and white shirt is too mainstream! You would rarely spot me wearing one of these combinations and unlike my image of an action hero, I usually end up wearing a muted pink shirt and blue jeans instead.
