Remember the two-toned hair we spotted on so many Hollywood celebrities with blond hair? Yes, the honey coloured beauties went darker either at the roots or the tips of their hair. Well, this two toning has gone beyond the hair, clothes and even nails as everyone is going the Ombre way for their lips this season. It’s daring if you want it to be and could be well, vanilla boring if that’s what you desire. From catwalks at Prabal Gurung and Victoria Beckham, to celebrities to makeup fanatics, everyone has been sporting this hot new look this summer! How are we doing it? That’s what we’ll tell you in just a bit...
What is it?
Fashion and makeup would define it as something that’s more than just one shade or hue. At sometime or the other, we have definitely been a part of the multiple-hue lip trend when we applied liner and filled our lips with ample colour. However, after the fashion weeks we have gotten ourselves a good old dose of newness and inspiration to go beyond what’s ordinary. Of course, we are not referring to Haider Ackermann’s saturated ombre lips or Viktor & Rolf’s catwalk inspiration too. However, contrary to how complicated this look might seem, it is pretty much an easily attainable and doable for day-today life.
How to: Ombre Lips
The five-point guide to recreating this catwalk trend is as follows-
We always believe in exfoliating our lips no matter what. Sugar mixed with honey or good old ghee/butter will prove to be a good alternative to a bottle of lip scrub. Yes, DIY’s are amazing! Silky smooth lips always make for good base for lipsticks. Once, your lips are spruced up enough, we suggest you take your most-trusted lip balm and apply it evenly to your lips.
Take a blotting paper, folded in half and across the folded line draw a line with your lipstick. Fold your paper in half again and carefully press lips down onto the lipstick line.
Your lip brush will be your BFF for recreating this look. Use it well to blend it around your lips going out from the centre to the middle. It’s best to stay in and around the centre and not move towards the edge for this one. We want the middle to look incredibly fuller.
The end step would be to carefully trace the outside edge of your lips with a cotton swab and you have gotten yourself a fabulously understated ombre lip!
Sk’s cue tip- The goal is to have lips that are dark on the edges and fade gradually to a lighter colour in the middle. For a night time look, opt for a metallic or shimmer finish on the lighter colour.
Hottest Spring Hues that we swear by- Pink, Coral and everlasting Red this spring summer! Knock yourself over with different variants in these three shades. We love Lancome, MAC, Rimmel and YSL. Get your trusted nudes together and smudge around with lipstains too. Use thy brush and finger tips too, in order to get that perfect ombre look.
New Launches- Maxfactor and Bite Beauty Lip Layers have come up with contrasting shades that can be layered Ombre-style or used separately as well. We love the Pomegranate and Vidal combination or the Peach and Creme Nude.
We bringing out the monochrome maxis, golden tan, flip-flops and our tie & dye hobo bag to beat the heat. Our beauty vanity is neatly been stocked up with various hues and style-wise pairings for that purrrfect ombre. What’s your take? Are you willing to rock it or knock it, this summer? Tell us!
