When the sun is shining and the skies are clear, there isn’t a more refreshing thought than the beach or the pool. Well, possibly the ‘girl in bikini’ thought wins by a smidgen (or ‘men in Speedos’…it’s a subjective deliberation). Conceal and reveal- that’s the eternal allure of swimwear. This summer, beat the sweltering heat with a cool dip in the pool. SK takes some expert tips from designer duo Shivan and Narresh for poolside style for every body profile.
What are the different kinds of swimsuits?
There are maillots (one piece swimsuits), Bikinis (two piece swimsuits), Trikinis (cutout maillot), Tankinis (tank top and bottom), Bandeaus (strapless top and bottom) and Monokinis (no top, only bottom!)
What is the right kind of suit for someone who has a heavy bust?
One shoulder maillots can look very feminine while providing the right amount of support for activities in and outside the water. Diagonal lines cutting across the swimsuit can make you look less busty. SK tip- If you wish to wear a bikini, go for bikini tops with underwiring for support.
How about if someone is small busted?
A Tankini could help this body type look fuller at the bust. Besides the tankini, bikinis (especially with frilly features on the top) and trikinis are also good options for this body type.
What can one wear if they are short in height?
Two shoulder or one shoulder maillots work well for this body type. Avoid tankinis as they tend to cut the body into three halves and, hence, make the body look shorter. SK tip- Wear slinky two-pieces to create the illusion of length and avoid ‘boy short’ bottoms.
Someone who has a curvy body or womanly waist lines?
One shouldered or two shouldered sport maillots with diagonal style lines running across the body work best for this body type as they visually cut across the body and make it look similar. Also, choosing swimwear which has darker colours at problem areas could work considerably well in this case.
What about a flabby stomach?
Two shoulder maillots with drapes at the center front could help camouflage the extra flab. Trikinis(cutout maillot), aptly cut on either sides of the stomach could help shift focus from the stomach.
What can one wear as a cover-up?
While pareos, sarongs and kaftans are versatile cover-ups, one could also use trousers, silk and cotton shirts and shorts that can be worn with swimsuits.
How should one take care of their swimsuit?
Always flat dry your swimsuit after use, never pack a wet swimsuit with any other article, never wash a swimsuit in hot water (temperature above 40°C), do not use chlorine bleach for washing your swimsuits and do not iron a swimsuit.
