The eyes are the one thing people look at the most when conversing with you. Worldwide statistics indicate that the most alluring feature in a woman is her eyes. Some people are of the belief that the eyes are a window to look inside a person and know what he truly is on the inside. Thus, the old English proverb ‘eyes speak more than words’. With store shelves spilling over with stacks of eye makeup, it is pretty suggestive that everyone wants their peepers to be bigger, darker and captivating. Now one can surely achieve this with makeup but walking around in the middle of the day with lady gaga-esque eyes is downright silly and strongly inadvisable. The trick is to fake it! SK introduces to you definite ways to achieve eyes that guarantee an almost certain WOW! Three prominent Delhi based makeup experts speak...
“One of the most important accessories in your makeup bag should be a good eyelash curler”, says makeup expert Jyoti Kumar. She adds, “A good quality eyelash curler can do wonders in lifting and opening up your eyes. I swear by Shu Uemura, a brand I believe has the most efficient and universally popular lash curlers; a close second would be ones by Shisheido. Simply run the hair dryer on your lash curler for a few seconds, carefully clasp your upper lashes in between the curler and press down firmly for wonderful flutter-worthy lashes”.
Jyoti says, “In the Far East, women are obsessed with fake lashes. As a part of their daily routine, little women as old as 13 or 14 years begin training themselves in the art of quick application of fake lashes. It is by far the most effective way to instantly dramatise the eyes without the use of heavy makeup. One can buy fake lashes in several forms, individual, clumps, half or full sets. When worn appropriately, it simply merges with the natural lashes and cannot be told by the untrained eye. It is just a matter of sheer practice after which anyone can wear fake lashes in as little as a couple of minutes”.
Makeup expert Priyanka Kapoor explains, “Curl your lashes using an eyelash curler. Next put eyelash glue on the fake lashes and wait for a few seconds for the glue to slightly dry. Using a tweezer, pick the eyelash from its tip and place it very close to the lash line. For a natural effect start from the outer corner of the eye and work your way through the entire eye. Stop when you feel it looks too dramatic. Let the glue set then coat the bottom of the lashes with a thin coat of mascara”. Jyoti adds, “Use half lash or clumps of fake lashes for a hint of drama and a full set for an evidently dramatic look”. Makeup expert Rishab Khanna suggests MAC No. 12 false eyelash set for length and volume and No. 7 for slightly volumous but well defined, natural looking lashes.
Sometimes wearing lashes on an everyday basis can prove time consuming and taxing, especially when you’re a rookie. Plus, fake lashes, no matter how carefully you handle them, can only be worn enough number of times. In such cases it is advisable to invest in a good quality high impact mascara. Rishab swears by Lancome for its mascaras, Jyoti recommends Dior Show and MAC Zoomlash and Priyanka vows by Chanel Inimitable mascara and Maybelline Collosal mascara for the budget concious. “A simple stroke of an electric blue, emerald green or neon coloured eyeliner along with well defined lashes can do wonders in drawing attention to your eyes”, adds Priyanka.
Priyanka stresses that Indian women, though regular with their eyebrow threading, mostly rely on extremely inexperienced and uninformed women for the grooming of their brows. The brows are an enormously important feature of your face and more thought and care should be put into its shaping. Brow fillers should be used on a regular basis to define the brows and fill them in. I swear by the brand Benefit for its wide variety in brow fillers”.
Rishab concludes, “Contact lenses can also make a huge difference in your look. I love the ones by Freshlook. Choose a colour close to your natural eye colour as that will work best for your skin tone”.
